CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS – Friday Nights 23 & 30 March at URAC

The committee is pleased to announce that this year’s club championships will be held over 2 Friday nights. This is a change from our normal Sunday timeslot due to a clash with an important SESA event – The Brophy Shield in Canberra.

Entries must be submitted by Tuesday 20 March on the attached Multi Entry Card (no need to print on the coloured card – just print onto normal paper).

The cost remains the same as always – $1 per event.

There is a 6 event maximum for each swimmer with a maximum of 4 events to be swum on any one night.

On the multi entry card, use the left hand side card for night 1 and the right hand side for night 2.

Wests Illawarra Open Water swimmers do the club proud at Nationals.

West Illawarra swimmers achieved outstanding results at the National Open Water Championships in Perth.

The club sent a team of 7 swimmers and achieved the following results:

• Jarrod Poort – 3rd in Open 10km (2nd Australian) and 1st in Open 5km
• Zoe Elkerton – 2nd in 17-18 yrs 10km and 3rd in Open 5km
• Claire Nicholls – 11th in Open 10km and 10th in Open 5km
• Connor Velthuis – 32nd in 15yrs 5km
• Naimh Bourke – 11th in 14yrs 5km
• Kaitlin McKeon – 31st in 14yrs 5km
• Baylee Bourke – 36th in 14yrs 5km

David McKeon named NSW Male Swimmer of the Meet at State Open Champs

The WIAQ team performed admirably at the NSW Stae Open Championships with medals to David McKeon and Jarrod Poort and finals appearances for many other swimmers. With the Olympics this year the championships were full of elite international and interstate swimmers.

SESA Championships – Wests Illawarra Club Champions

Congratualations to all swimmers and families who travelled to Ulladulla for the SESA championships. Due to strong results and great participation, Wests Illawarra Aquatic won the club championship.

This championship is a first for our club now that we are a part of the larger SESA region. In the past, WIAQ was a dominant force in the more local SCAT area but it has taken 3 years to re-establish the club as the strongest in the region.

2012 WIAQ State Age Relay Teams Announced

With all of the improvement shown by our swimmers this year, plus our new club members, selecting our relay teams for State Age has been very difficult.

It is acknowledged that the process has not gone smoothly and as a result some swimmers had inadvertently been placed in relay teams and some swimmers had been overlooked. These issues took some time to sort through and we apologise to all involved.

Attached to the following links are the teams for the 10-12yrs State Age and 13 & above State Age to be held on 7-8 January and 10-15 January respectively.

If your swimmer is unable to attend, please advise James or AJ urgently.
